The Fleener Family Foundation, named in honor of Mae Fleener, is a public charity dedicated to the health and well-being of women and children with a focus on health initiatives.
The Foundation is currently funding a cold cap therapy initiative to provide help to women undergoing chemotherapy. Cold cap therapy is used to limit hair loss and was utilized by Mae's granddaughter after a cancer diagnosis in 2015.
The long-term plan is both exciting and ambitious as the foundation would like to create "The Healing Home" in the hospital district of Fort Worth. The Healing Home will be a place women can seek comfort after completing active treatment for cancer. For many, the time after treatment ends is harder than the actual surgery, chemotherapy or radiation. The Healing Home will be a refuge in a non-medical setting.
Mae was born on July 12, 1925 in Definance, Ohio. She lived in both Ohio and Indiana, where she was a legal secretary for 50 years, before retiring to Fort Worth, TX in 1997. Mae passed away on December 31, 2018 at the age of 93 leaving a lifetime legacy of giving and love. Her heart and passion for helping others will continue through the Fleener Family Foundation and all those who give.
